Artificial 3D Object Identification.

According to KurtzweilAI, a breakthrough has been made in the realm of object identification in three dimensions using artificial intelligence. This is pretty exciting stuff. Automation of the mundane, here we come.

Notice how robotics and artificial intelligence seems to be following a map to fruition.

We began with direct control. CAD instructions to a robotic arm welding a joint or working an automatic lathe, for example.

During this phase, physical infrastructure continued to improve -- our robotic arms became tougher, more dexterous, faster.

We've even developed robots that can walk as humanoids.

The current research involves sensory perception. Tables that know who's touching them. Tactile sensation on the "skin" of a robot. Computers on cars that can "see" with lasers and radar. And now 3d-imaging. We already have taste and scent -- computers have been able to identify chemical compounds through "sniffer" devices for years ... and these continue to improve.

Anybody else see a pattern here?

Intelligent thought WILL come.
